At the 2015 EAA AirVenture Oshkosh Fly In, aviation enthusiasts will have the opportunity to bid on a one-of-a-kind 2015 Ford Mustang “Apollo Edition.” The annual air show is held by the Experimental Aircraft Association, an international organization for aviation enthusiasts.
Ford has built one-of-a-kind commemorative Mustangs since 2008, and the 2015 model continues the legacy established by its predecessors. Over the years, the company has built tribute Mustangs for the SR-71 Blackbird, the Tuskegee Airmen, the U.S. AirForce Thunderbird aircraft, and the F-35 Lightening.
The “Apollo Edition” Ford Mustang features a custom black-and-white paint scheme, carbon-fiber splitter and rocker treatments, LED underbody lighting (to mimic the re-entry of a space shuttle), a customized instrument cluster, sill plates, and custom-embroidered seats (sorry, the back seats are removed).
Engine is the 5.0 L Coyote V8 with a Ford Performance Supercharger, and with a high-performance exhaust, the motor produces 627 horsepower. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.
Ford will auction this one-off Mustang at the AirVenture show on July 23rd, all the proceeds will go to support EAA youth education programs, which are designed to educate and excite young aviation enthusiasts.
To date, the commemorative Mustang program has generated nearly $3 Million dollars for the charity.
The 2015 EAA AirVenture air show will be held in Oshkosh, WI from July 20th-26th.
