130 years ago, Karl Benz’s Patent Motorwagen forever changed the way people traveled around the world. . Since then, his three-wheeled horseless driven carriage has been unanimously credited as the world’s first automobile.
To celebrate 130 years of internal combustion as the primary source for forward propulsion, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the 2017 Mercedes-AMG S63 4Matic Cabriolet Edition 130 at 2016 North American International Auto Show.
The 2017 Mercedes-AMG S63 4Matic Cabriolet Edition 130 (try saying that fast five times) is powered by a hand-built AMG 5.5 L twin-turbo V8, which produces an astounding 582 horsepower and planet melting 664 lb.ft. torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via AMG designed seven-speed automatic transmission.
The cabin of this exclusive drop top can be dressed in either Bengal red-and-black or Crystal gray-and-black leather. The trim consists of the de rigeur du jour piano-black wood mixed with a healthy dose of carbon-fiber. AMG designers suggest that a combination like this underscores “the special position of this limited edition”. Sure, Mercedes-AMG interior designers could have easily dressed up the cabin in some exotic wood trim, but modern AMG owners would prefer their interiors to be dressed in carbon fiber instead.
If you want to add one to your exclusive car collection, you better hurry because Mercedes-AMG will only produce 130 units of the convertible for global consumption. Each car comes with an AMG indoor car cover featuring “Edition 130 – 1 of 130” embroidery, and Edition 130 key ring, and an aluminum box to keep the keys in.
As of this writing, Mercedes-Benz have not announced the U.S. pricing for the 2017 Mercedes-AMG S63 4Matic Cabriolet Edition 130 yet, but it is safe to expect that when this uber exclusive drop top does go on sale, it will easily cost around $230,000 or even more.
