For the past five months, we have witnessed the awesome power of the Volkswagen Mk 7 Golf R hatchback in Europe. If you are interested in getting one of the first 500 units, make sure to log on to WWW.VW.com/GolfR on Jan 8th with a check for $500 (this amount can be used towards the final purchase of the vehicle and is completely refundable). After the first 500 units are officially “sold”, customers can join the waiting list for when if one of the original purchasers decide to back down or cancel their order.
So, what is so special of the first 500 compared to the “regular” Golf R? All of the first 500 Golf R will be the top of the line Golf R model with DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control), Navigation, and 6-speed DSG automatic transmission. The only available color on these 500 samples is Lapiz Blue metallic. All Golf R hatchbacks are motivated by a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine which produces 292 horsepower and 280 lb. ft. of torque. The pre-order models will also come standard with the 19 inch “Cadiz” aluminum alloy wheels with summer performance tires, 4 Motion AWD system, Bi-Xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights, DCC adaptive damping system, Park Distance Control, and a navigation unit with Fender premium audio. For those who missed out on one of the first 500 units, there is no need to panic as you can option the “regular” Golf R, which has a starting price of $37,000, with all the additional features mentioned above. Also, for $1,100 less, you can purchase the Golf R with a manual transmission, as the first 500 units will be sold only with a 6-speed DSG automatic transmission.
